The sixth edition of The Architecture Drawing Prize, which this year is sponsored by Iris Ceramica Group with Floornature as European media partner, was presented a few weeks ago. Until 9 September applicants can register to take part in the award that celebrates art and mastery in the representation of architecture. The overall winner of the previous edition was Dafni Filippa's 'Flood Responsive Landscape Performance', a hybrid design combining different rendering techniques.
The Architecture Drawing Prize is the prize for the representation of architecture, celebrating the art and mastery of architectural design. It is organised and promoted by three different entities from the world of architecture, and also benefits from the sponsorship of Iris Ceramica Group while Floornature is its European media partner. Let's find out more about the organisers and promoters of the award: Make Architects is an international, award-winning architectural practice with ongoing projects in different parts of the world. The focus on accurate representation of architecture is linked both to collaborations over the years with various artists such as Kenny Hunter and Catherine Bertola, and to the great passion for design of Ken Shuttleworth, founder of the studio. The Sir John Soane’s Museum is located in London, at No. 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields and consistently promotes educational and training activities in the field of creativity and art. Indeed, the museum was established at the behest of Sir John Soane (1753-1837) professor of architecture at the Royal Academy. The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is a world-leading festival dedicated to architecture. Over the three days of the event, finalist architects and studios present their projects to an audience of professionals and industry experts, as well as to international juries. Iris Ceramica Group is an important Made in Italy entrepreneurial company. The group is a world leader in the design, production and distribution of high-end ceramic products for architecture, and was founded by Romano Minozzi in 1961. Today it is led by Federica Minozzi, a member of the jury of The Architecture Drawing Prize 2022. The presentation of the sixth edition of The Architecture Drawing Prize took place just a few weeks ago and until 9 September participants can apply and compete for the new edition. The list of finalists and, subsequently, the winners, will be announced in October and showcased at the World Architecture Festival in Lisbon, from 30 November to 2 December 2022.
. The award covers all forms of representation of architectural design, from conceptual, technical or construction designs to axonometric cutaways and perspective views. Architects, designers and students from all over the world can compete with works representing both future or conceptual projects and actually constructed buildings. In the 2021 edition, for example, the project 'Flood Responsive Landscape Performance' by Dafni Filippa was selected as the overall winner. The work is a hybrid render, created from a photograph of a physical model, which was then digitally manipulated. The architect took inspiration from the climate emergency to propose a solution to the hypothetical floods that could hit a London of the future, and suggested a solution involving the injection of hydro-membranes deep underground to protect the infrastructure from flood waters. This project impressed the jurors with the great skill of the representation. The international jury evaluates the competitors on the basis of several characteristics: technical skill, originality of approach, and the ability to convey an architectural idea.The works are divided into three categories: manual, digital and hybrid. For the 2022 edition, the jury consists of: Bruce Boucher, Director of Sir John Soane’s Museum; the artist Pablo Bronstein; Lily Jencks, founder of Lily Jencks Studio; the artists Ben Langlands & Nikki Bell; Federica Minozzi, CEO of Iris Ceramica Group; Narinder Sagoo, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners; and Ken Shuttleworth, founder of Make Architects. The images presented on this page refer to the 2021 winners and the exhibition celebrating them at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London. In addition to the aforementioned work by Dafni Filippa winning the overall first prize and the Hybrid category ex aequo with “(Un)homeliness” by Boji Hu, the other winners of the 2021 edition were: “Reconfiguring Addis Ababa’s Narratives” by Antonio Paoletti for theHand drawn category, “ Site(s) of Flux” by Zachary Higson for the “Digital” categories and for the “Lockdown prize”.
