April’s can’t-miss design events

There’s a design gathering in nearly every corner of the country this month. Whether you’re in Boston, Atlanta, New York or Kentucky, designers and brands are getting together just in time for spring. Read on for BOH’s monthly calendar highlights, including conferences, trade shows, showhouses and design discussions.

The Winter Show (in Spring) New York | April 1–10 Postponed from January due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, the 68th edition of The Winter Show will take place this spring at 660 Madison Avenue, the former flagship location of Barneys New York. Featuring more than 60 exhibitors across four floors, attendees can browse works of art, antiques and design objects ranging from antiquities to contemporary pieces, with sales benefitting the East Side House Settlement. Special events include an opening night party to kick off the festivities, a young collectors’ night complete with a cocktail hour and DJ sets and a connoisseur’s night featuring wine tastings and booth talks from art and antiques experts. A Guide to Market with BOH High Point, North Carolina | April 1 Ahead of this season’s High Point Market event, BOH editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen and market editor Caroline Biggs will host a casual lunch and meet-and-greet, offering an insider scoop on the hottest product launches and designer collaborations featured in the Designer’s Guide to High Point Market. High Point Spring Market 2022 High Point, North Carolina | April 2–6 The home furnishings industry’s largest trade show returns, occupying more than 10 million square feet with nearly 2,000 exhibitors spread across 180 buildings. Join the 70,000 to 80,000 attendees representing 100 countries for a plethora of product debuts and events featuring designers, craftsmen and home brands alike—highlights include a panel discussion on weaving smart-home automation into your design aesthetic, with panelists DuVäl Reynolds of DuVäl Design, Christopher Kennedy of Christopher Kennedy Inc. and Lori Paranjape of Mrs. Paranjape Design, moderated by BOH editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen. New York Tabletop Show New York | April 5–8 This biannual event returns to 41 Madison this season, welcoming retailers, interior designers, chefs, restaurateurs, architects and other tabletop professionals to check out new industry offerings. Featuring more than 90 permanent showrooms and over 200 brands and manufacturers, the show will explore new traditions around eating, entertaining and the tabletop industry created out of the pandemic. International Window Coverings Expo 2022 Fort Lauderdale, Florida | April 6–7 Hosted at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, this event is the nation’s largest networking and educational exposition for window treatment professionals, held annually since 1986. Window fashion decorators, designers, retailers, architects, installers, remodelers and stagers can attend to discover leading industry suppliers, new products and connections during a series of seminars and workshops. IDS 2022 Toronto Toronto | April 7–10 Head to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for this year’s Interior Design Show, focused on the theme of “New Futures” through exploring Canadian design within a global context as a catalyst for new ideas, solutions and expression. Along with checking out new product introductions, attendees can take part in a variety of programming sessions organized around four themes—building the design business; big ideas; climate change and social responsibility; and technology and innovation. Lexington Design Social Lexington, Kentucky | April 7 For this edition of The Design Social Pop-Up—one of four regional community events hosted this year—designers and editors can connect with the artisans and creatives behind leading textile, wallcovering and home furnishing brands for an event hosted at The Carrick House, with ticket sales benefitting The Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund. At 1 p.m., BOH editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen will host a Meet the Makers panel with several participating brands, while Veranda executive editor Ellen McGauley will host several local designers for a discussion at 5:30 p.m. on the influences of local aesthetics on interior design in the Bluegrass State. Leaders of Design 2022 Annual Conference Brugge, Belgium | April 10–13 The Leaders of Design Council welcomes members to its annual conference, featuring an array of speakers, workshops and leadership conversations in an event curated in conjunction with Axel and Boris Vervoordt. 9th Annual Boston Design Week Boston | April 25–May 8 This year’s Boston Design Week features more than 60 citywide events—in virtual, hybrid and outdoor variations—including panel discussions, exhibitions, behind-the-scenes tours and product introductions, with hosts ranging from design businesses, showrooms, universities and museums to nonprofit organizations. Centered on the theme “Boston Rethinks Design,” topics include landscape design and outdoor life; architecture and urban planning; professional focus; design and social impact; and handmade design. Design ADAC Atlanta | April 26–28 Co-sponsored by Veranda and free to attend, Design ADAC welcomes attendees for three days of events featuring industry experts from around the world. Highlights include a book signing and fabric debut from designer Mally Skok; a keynote presentation on the power of florals by designer Lewis Miller; and a panel discussion on shooting design projects for magazines featuring Veranda executive editor Ellen McGauley, Los Angeles photographer David Tsay, Atlanta photographer Mali Azima and New York stylist Anita Sarsidi.
