AMD current-gen HEDT CPUs have been out for months, but the company did not launch the series to the DIY market until today.

The Threadripper 5000 PRO series were exclusively launched for Lenovo systems in March this year. It took another four months for other OEMs/system integrators to finally start offering Zen3-based CPUs with other motherboards. Today, the TR 5000 Pro finally launches for the DIY market, unlocking the series to all customers.

AMD confirmed that there will be no Threadripper non-PRO series moving forward. In an effort to ‘unify’ the product lines and simplify the choice for customers. All future Threadripper CPUs will use the same socket, chipset, and feature ‘PRO’ branding. However, the exact plans for Zen4 HEDT series have not been confirmed yet.

Since today is the official launch for the DIY market, reviewers focusing on ‘consumer’ hardware have published their reviews, here are some of them:

AMD TR PRO series feature five models, but only three are now available for DIY builders. Unfortunately the prices for AMD HEDT series have skyrocketed, mainly due to lack of competition in this segment. The flagship 64-core CPU is to retail at 6,499 USD, while a 32-core version should cost 3,299 USD. Potential buyers should also prepare their budget for AMD WRX80 motherboards, because the WRX40 series are not compatible.
