ESCANABA — Firefighters believe a home oxygen tank that caught on fire is responsible for a blaze at an Escanaba apartment building Monday morning. Welding Gas Bottle

At 12:50 a.m. Monday, Escanaba Public Safety was dispatched to 302 North 15th St. on a report of smoke and flames coming from the two-story home. Upon arrival, officers discovered flames and heavy smoke coming from the front of the residence. Within minutes, the flames had extended to the second story of the complex.
Two tenants were transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the fire.
Officers remained on scene for several hours battling the blaze.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Ford River Township Fire Department, DTE Energy, Escanaba City Electric, Delta County Central Dispatch and Rampart EMS.
